Great Literature
Grades 7-12Taught by: Ann Bowman
Class Meets: Thursdays, 9-10am
What are the greatest books ever written? No class could ever cover all of them, but this class will try to touch on at least a few that are considered truly great. Using Progeny Press study guides, students will read eight works of literature by authors such as Charles Dickens, Ernest Hemingway, Mark Twain, Jane Austen, C.S. Lewis, and William Shakespeare. Students will read poetry, novels, the Bible, and other classics, and will be expected to participate actively in class discussions.
GREAT LITERATURE: The following list is not complete; students will be notified of additions.
- Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
- Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
- The Call of the Wild by Jack London
- The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
- Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens or Persuasion by Jane Austen
- The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
